Stepping out with Style

By René Daveluy.

Central West Ballet Principal Alyssa Milano retires after 15 years of Magic.

Any ballet company goes through eras. Generations of dancers come and go. But through these decades of service to a performing art, there are those who make a difference by becoming synonymous with the artistry of the company, and whose significance transcend any one era.

Alyssa Milano is such an artist. Leslie and I got to see her develop as a true professional. Alyssa’s career really emerged under our tenure with Central West. As the Company went from a regional entity to an emerging young professional company, Alyssa, the oldest of the troupe, became the dancer whose responsibility was that of carrying the company on her shoulders. This she did with her tenacity, her elegance and most of all, her boundless talents as a dancer and stage artist.

Few directors/choreographers get the chance to have such a talent in order to create magic. Alyssa was part of a special group that helped us propel Central West forward in the last ten years. She also developed into a genuine choreographer, quickly establishing her own style and artistry in that medium.

Part of a family that devoted themselves to Central West, Alyssa and her sisters, Adelina, Amy and Ashley, all danced in the Company. With their mom and dad, they gave their resources and talents to the cause because they believed in the process. Their passion for dance will always be part of the fabric of their lives.

In an interview many years ago, Alyssa said she grew up among shoe boxes in the store that her father, Bob, owned and operated. Among these were dance shoes, and that is where the story began.

All fairy tales begin with “Once Upon A Time”, but from there, the road to achievement, what’s ahead, can be the promise of a life full of creations. There is no doubt that Alyssa’s future will be one of great achievements.

Alyssa will always be a part of Central West Ballet. From all of us at the Company, Godspeed, may the stars keep illuminating your path.

Love, Central West Ballet.
